As a democratic organisation, members drive our policy-making process. There are two ways for members to engage in the policy making process.
ONGOING POLICY MAKING
In broad terms, our routine policy making process is as follows:
- We discuss with members which policy topics will be under review and invite your contributions and suggestions.
- Members volunteer to the Head of Policy to join the Policy Secretariat, to research and draft each round of policies in development.
- We consult on a draft policy by region though our Regional Chairs who discuss with their members and represent feedback to the Head of Policy.
- The Head of Policy will hold quarterly online meetings open to all members to discuss policy in development and gather feedback.
- Policy is approved, amended or rejected by vote of the National Co-ordinating Committee representing all regions.
SUBMITTING MOTIONS TO THE AGM
In addition, there is the opportunity for all members to initiate policy by submitting a motion to the Annual General Meeting. Members submit proposed motions to the Party Chair. The Policy Governing Board – Party Chair, Party Leader and Head of Policy – decide which resolutions go forward to conference. Each motion is adopted or rejected by a Member vote at the AGM.
